Are you not sure which perfume is best for you? Choosing the right perfume is not easy. Most ladies find perfume shopping challenging.

 

It is not easy to buy perfume for yourself let alone for someone else. Shopping for special occasions such as Mother’s Day easily becomes stressful.

As I love scents and fragrances, my friends often turn to me. And yes, I don’t mind helping out. If you find shopping for women’s perfume challenging, I have a couple of easy-to-follow tips for you.

 

Before we move on to the top brands and perfumes, I thought I share my shopping tips with you.

 

Lifestyle Shopping

 

You have probably heard the term lifestyle shopping mentioned once or twice. It is popping up in popular publications such as Cosmo and Harpers Bazaar. Even Women Weekly has been known to use it once or twice.

 

What does lifestyle shopping mean? It means that you consider your lifestyle before you go shopping.

 

For instance, when it comes to women’s perfume, a busy mom would probably not wear seductive perfume on the school run. Instead, she would perhaps opt for lighter scents such as Marc Jacob Daisy. This is a great perfume for daily use.

 

Which Women’s Perfume Is the Best?

 

In my opinion, it is impossible to say which women’s perfume is the best.

 

Instead, it is better to have different fragrance types. When you are going out in the evening, you are not likely to wear the same fragrance as you wore during the day.

 

I think you should aim to have at least four different fragrance types. For going out in the evening or going to work. I think that buying gift sets is a great idea. You often get a perfume, body lotion and a smaller version of the same scent.

 

The body lotion or shower gel helps to boost your fragrance. When you need a top-up, you have a mini-me version in your bag.

 

Which Perfume Last the Longest?

 

The length perfume lasts depends on many factors.

 

Most importantly, it is important to buy quality perfume from a recognised brand. Many shops including high street giant Boots sell their own perfumes. They are often cheaper. But, as they contain more alcohol than branded perfumes, they don’t last as long.

 

Why? Alcohol evaporates quickly when it hits the skin. A perfume containing more essential oils last longer as the oils linger on the skin.

 

When you truly want your perfume to last longer, you should go for what I like to call the complete perfume experience. Using a body lotion, shower gel and the fragrance makes a real difference when it comes to extending the time your perfume stays fragrant.

 

However, in general, perfumes that contain more spicy notes such as amber and sandalwood last longer. The essential oils of both are slightly heavier and stay on the skin for longer. Lotus is another durable essential oil.

 

Which Perfume Is Best For Smell?

 

Needless to say, this depends on personal preference. It also depends on how you apply it.

 

Not all perfumes smell the same on everyone. We are made up slightly differently and this alters the way a perfume reacts. If you have been through menopause, the same perfume you wore prior may now smell different.

 

There is no such thing as the best perfume for smell. It is a personal preference. Instead, it is better to focus on choosing the right perfume for the right occasion.

 

Lifestyle is another factor. If you go to the gym a lot, you want to have a Grab and Go perfume that you can put in your gym kit.

 

When you go out in the evening, you need a perfume that makes more of an impact.

 

The smell of perfume is almost always related to the occasion. As the saying goes, there are horses for courses. I like to say there are perfumes for occasions.

 

Let’s take a look at my top perfume for women.

 

Carolina Herrera

 

Spanish-born Carolina Herrera is one of the world’s most popular designers in women’s fashion. She introduced her first perfume back in 1988.

 

Carolina likes to call her perfumes her invisible fashion accessories. In many ways she is right. Just like handbags and tote bags, perfumes are fashion accessories. A group of ladies is just as likely to talk about what perfume they are wearing as where they bought their latest handbags.

 

These days, Carolina Herrera is famous for her famous shoe perfume bottle. It is the signature of her Good Girl fragrance range.

 

The Good Girl fragrance range consists of Good Girl Eau de Parfum, Good Girl Gold, Very Good Girl and Good Girl Supreme.

 

The main elements are almond, tuberose, jasmine sambac, tonka bean and cocoa bean. Sandalwood, cedar and vetiver add to the longevity and endurance of the Good Girl range of women’s perfume.

 

Other ranges from Carolina Herrera include 212 VIP Rose, Heroes 212 and 212 for Her. It is an excellent range and 212 VIP Rose is a beautiful scent with floral notes, but not overpowered by rose. Instead, it makes you think of the refreshing notes you get when opening a bottle of pink champagne. It is a great perfume for special occasions.

 

Another popular offering from Carolina Herrera is CH Eau de Parfum.

 

Carolina Herrera also offers a wonderful product called Legs Elixir. It is a must-have when on holiday, it belongs in every suitcase. Not only does it make your legs look great and improves skin tone, but it also smells divine.

 

Paco Rabanne Lady Million

 

You can’t miss this brand as it is all over your TV screen during the Christmas season.

Paco Rabanne is an excellent fragrance brand and perfect for both daytime and evening wear. It is another brand that has extended its range in recent years.

 

Popular offerings from Lady Million are Eau de Parfum and Lady Million Empire.

 

Lady Million Empire is an excellent addition to the range. If you already have the Lady Eau de Parfum sitting on your dressing table, you should add Million Empire. The addition of magnolia and white patchouli makes this an excellent choice for when going out. Lady Million Empire has a dynamic bouquet that lasts for a long time.

 

Paco Rabanne also produces excellent high-quality gift sets which often include a Lady Million body lotion.

 

Lady Million is a fun and flirtatious fragrance range great for both day and evening wear.

 

Dior Women’s Perfume

 

Dior makes some of the best perfumes in the world - there is no doubt about that. Miss Dior is a popular choice for daytime wear. It is a very feminine scent.

 

If you are looking for a fragrance that oozes quality and is light-hearted at the same time, you should check out Miss Dior Rose N Roses. It opens up with fresh notes of lemon. Let it linger and you pick up on bergamot and geranium.

 

Rose N Roses is a great fragrance for work and everyday wear.

 

Of course, Dior is also famous for Poison. A range of different variants of Poison has been introduced. Dior Poison Girl and Dior Poison Girl Unexpected are both excellent choices for women’s perfume on a night out.

 

It has to be said that Dior Poison Girl Unexpected is sassy and likes to shake things up. A young vibrant scent which is a welcome addition to the Poison range.

 

Dior Eau Fraiche is a classic scent from this top brand. It is refreshing and lasts for a long time. At the same time, Eau Fraiche is elegant and picks you up. It is a scent that never lets you down and is perfect for most occasions.

 

Marc Jacobs Daisy Range

 

Marc Jacobs perfume bottles are meant to be kept. They look really good when sat on your dressing table. Once, you have finished using them, they still look good. They make excellent bud vases.

 

What does Marc Jacobs Daisy smell like? The fragrance is refreshing and youthful. The brand continues to grow and is constantly adding new fragrances.

 

As a matter of fact, the Marc Jacobs range is becoming collectible. Marc Jacobs has many fans including me.

 

Two of my Marc Jacobs favourites are Daisy Love and Daisy Eau So Fresh. Whether you are 20 years old or 50 years young, I think that both fragrances are excellent for daytime wear.

 

What does Daisy Love smell like? It is soft and fruity but has what I like to call substance. You soon pick up on woody notes and earthy notes. Daisy Love is a great scent when you want to smell fresh all day.

 

 

Eau So Fresh with the addition of cedarwood transforms Daisy into a fragrance for evening wear. It still manages to hang on to its freshness but there is something more exciting present.

 

Jimmy Choo

 

Jimmy Choo is famous for its shoes with red soles. If you have tried other perfumes but have not felt they have been for you, Jimmy Choo is an excellent brand to turn to.

 

It has to be said the range of Jimmy Choo fragrances is extensive. For an exclusive brand, Jimmy Choo also offers excellent value for money.

 

What is the Jimmy Choo perfume for women you should look out for?

 

I collect Estee Lauder fragrances but I have to admit that Jimmy Choo comes a close second. Not only are the bottles beautiful, but I also think that a lot of thought goes into creating Jimmy Choo perfumes.

 

Popular choices from the Jimmy Choo range of women’s fragrances include I Want Choo, Choo Eau de Toilette, Jimmy Choo Eau de Parfum and Jimmy Choos Floral. All of them are perfect for daytime wear.

 

If you are looking for Jimmy Choo fragrances for evening wear, you should check out Illicit, Illicit Flower and Fever.

 

Jimmy Choo Fever deserves an extra mention. It has a broad scent palette which is both dynamic and feminine. Orchid mixes with sandalwood and you also pick up sunflowers backed up by tonka bean. Fever is very aromatic but manages to stay feminine at the same time.

A great choice for nights out.

 

Jimmy Choo Eau De Parfum range is certainly a range of perfume which works well for modern women. We can’t all afford the red-soled shoes, but we can certainly afford Jimmy Choo perfumes.

 

Kenzo Flower Eau De Parfum

 

Kenzo has one of the most extensive ranges of any perfume brand. To many, it is a bit overwhelming. I have to admit that I agree with that.

 

If you go into a shop to buy Kenzo perfumes, you will find that even the sales assistant is a bit overwhelmed by the Kenzo range of women’s perfume.

 

I have bought many of the perfumes from this brand including Aqua, Red, Flower, World and Eau de Vie.

When a range is as extensive as the Kenzo range of perfumes, I think you have to stick to one or two.

 

The bottles are beautiful and look great. However, if you are looking for what I like to call a Stand Out Perfume, I think you would have to go for Kenzo Jungle Elephant.

 

This may sound like an odd name for a fragrance. Kenzo Jungle was the name of the brand’s first shop in Paris.

 

When it comes to perfumes, I think that Jungle Elephant is a premier scent. It works well during the day and transits easily enough into the early evening.

 

Thanks to notes of cardamom, cumin and ylang-ylang, it is not going to offend anyone in the office. Cashmere gently brings the amber and patchouli together to give the perfume a deeper base.

Before I drift away on a cloud of scent, I thought I would wrap up this journey into women’s perfume.

 

When choosing a perfume take your time. There is no need to rush. Buying a stand-alone perfume is great, but don’t forget to look out for gift sets. Many offer excellent value for money.
