When the days get longer and the weather starts warming up, we are reminded of summer and holidays.

 

Most ladies like to buy a new summer wardrobe or add a few new pieces to their existing wardrobe.

 

But, what about your perfume? Should you wear the same perfume 365 days per year?

 

Some perfumes work better in summer and others are better for the cooler part of the year.

Just like you update your wardrobe for summer, you should update your fragrance collection.

Fresh and aquatic notes are important. Look out for fragrances with citrus essential oils at their heart.

 

Floral scents are also popular. But, they have to be stronger. Don’t forget summer air is much more fragrant when compared to winter and autumn.

 

For the summer nights, you need a few dusky and musky notes for extra interest.

 

Do I Need a Body Lotion?

 

I recommend buying a body lotion in the same fragrance any time of the year.

 

However, this practice becomes especially important in summer. You are warmer and a warm body helps release scent elements in a body lotion.

 

Can you wear a body lotion under your sunscreen? This is a question I am asked a lot.

 

Strictly speaking, there is no reason why. Remember that most body lotions do not have an SPF factor. Never replace a protective suntan lotion with a body lotion.

 

Body lotions don’t protect you against sunburn or skin damage. Always protect your skin by wearing a good quality suntan lotion.

 

In the summer, I put on my body lotion after my shower. Then I know I am set for the day. When heading for the beach or pool, I never re-apply my body lotion. I strictly stick to my suntan lotion.

 

Once back home or at the hotel, I shower and apply my body lotion.

 

 

 

Recently, I have read many social media posts from so-called beautiful advisers. Many claim it is safe to replace your suntan lotion with body lotion.

 

As mentioned, your body lotion does not protect you against sunburn.

 

Should You Use Your Perfume On the Beach?

 

You can do but don’t spray it on your skin. Instead, apply it to your hair.

 

Quality perfumes are packed with essential oils that can intensify UV rays. I always spray perfume on my hair when I go to the beach or pool in summer.

 

Use a good quality hair conditioner and the perfume does not damage your hair.

I never wear the same fragrance at night as I do during the day. Also when I go on holiday, I buy what I call “holiday perfumes.”

 

My holiday fragrance is often more extravagant. I like to splash on special occasions. Most of the time, I buy a daytime perfume and a nighttime fragrance.

Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana is one of summer’s best fragrances. Looking back, it is hard to believe this fragrance was launched by D&G as far back as 2001. It is right up to date and one of my favourites. Light Blue makes a great holiday perfume.

 

What does Light Blue smell like? It is a fruity, slightly perky floral fragrance.

 

Light Blue makes a bold opening statement with Sicilian lemons. After that, you discover cedar, apple and bellflower.

 

Bamboo adds softness before white rose and jasmine emerge on the scene. Background notes are amber, cedar and musk.

 

A great summer fragrance for women of any age.

 

 

Coach Signature Eau de Parfum

 

Please don’t overlook Coach as a brand when it comes to women’s summer fragrances or any other time of the year.

Coach is not a new brand. It has its origins in Manhattan, New York in the early 1940s. An excellent brand that does things slightly differently.

 

Not many brands have captured the essence of pink grapefruit, but I think Coach has managed to do so with Signature. It is a lovely refreshing scent.

 

Additional notes in this fragrance include mandarin and pear. You also have the delicious elegance of white roses - a scent perfect for summer.

 

This initial bouquet is backed up by jasmine and Bulgarian roses. The final flourish is one of musk, sandalwood and oak moss. Hints of white cedar have been thrown in for extra interest.

 

A lovely fragrance which travels well. Signature EDP offers both freshness and depth making it perfect for evening wear.

 

Guerlain Mon Guerlain Eau de Parfum

 

Are Guerlain perfumes extra vagant? Guerlain perfumes are a cut above others.

 

Over the years, Guerlain has become an iconic brand when it comes to perfumes and skincare.

 

One thing all Guerlain products have in common is high quality. When you are looking for a perfume that stands out, It is an excellent brand to turn to.

 

Does Guerlain produce a summer perfume? They certainly do. One of the best summer perfumes in my book is made by Guerlain. The name of the fragrance is Mon Guerlain.

 

What does Mon Guerlain smell like?

 

The fragrance launched in 2017. The fragrance made me feel soothed and relaxed when I caught a whiff of the scent.

 

I don’t know if it is the right way to describe a fragrance but there is something chilled out about this fragrance.

 

After a long hot summer’s day, Mon Guerlain is the perfect fragrance. Also, it works well as a date night fragrance if you are going on a personal date

 

Fragrance notes in this top-class scent include bergamot and lavender. Jasmin, Iris and Rose are a match made in heaven. This is set to the delicate notes of vanilla, sandalwood, benzoin and coumarin. Anise and patchouli spice up the final flourish.

 

I love this scent. If you have the opportunity, treat yourself to it this summer.

 

Burberry Her Eau de Parfum

 

Don’t forget about Burberry. I love my Burberry wool scarves and I also adore Burberry perfumes.

What makes Burberry Her a great summer fragrance for women?

 

If you have ever smelt the essence of peony, you will immediately recognise its top note.

 

Once the peony dissipates, you are left with juicy pear, strawberry and blackcurrant. Pink peppercorn and honeysuckle quickly burst on the scene. This is followed by lily of the valley and roses. A musky backdrop of cedarwood makes the fragrance addictive.

 

Burberry Her is a great evening perfume for when going on in the summer or on a hot night.

 

Jimmy Choo Rose Passion Eau de Parfum

 

There is only one way to make a sweeping statement about this fragrance. That is glitz and glamour in a bottle.

 

Once you smelt it, you can easily imagine yourself sipping champagne in a marina watching expensive yachts pop up and down.

 

The fragrance's first explosion consists of frangipani flowers mixed with decadent coconut. There is a hint of roses, but you also discover jasmine and orchid blossoms. The end is a flourish of vanilla and sandalwood.

 

This is a fragrance which works well during the daytime as well as the night. When you can only take one perfume on holiday Rose Passion is the one.

 

A great choice for ladies of all ages

 

Q by Dolce Gabbana

 

This fragrance smells a bit like Mediterranean summer nights.

 

Q by D&G offers floral and fruity notes with touches of wood. The freshness comes from lemons from Sicily set on a canvas of cherry.

 

It is a bold scent which is different. When you need a fragrance to cut through many other scents Q is an excellent choice.

 

Does it work as a daytime perfume? Yes, it does - perfect for days out shopping.

 

It is a long-lasting scent with many interesting notes. I love the design of the bottle - it looks like a million dollars.

 

Fame by Paco Rabanne

 

This fragrance launched in 2022 and quickly became popular as an evening perfume.

 

I don’t know why, but I can see myself sitting at a cocktail bar sipping something nice and cool while wearing this fragrance.

 

What does Fame smell like? The addition of mango triggers my daydreams of cocktail bars. Other opening fragrances include pink pepper and bergamot.

 

More mysterious, darker notes come from patchouli, jasmine and sexy frankincense. There is a final accord provided by musk, benzoin and sandalwood.

 

A lovely fragrance which makes you feel sexy. When you are looking for a holiday perfume, Fame is a great choice. It certainly copes with those balmy, warm Mediterranean nights.

 

Perfect by Marc Jacobs

 

As I am going through a Marc Jacobs phase, I would be amiss if I did not mention a fragrance from the brand.

 

Many of the fragrances from Marc Jacobs make great daytime perfumes. Is there one that stands out as far as summer fragrances for women go?

 

I think so. The fragrance I am thinking about is called Perfect.

 

What does Perfect from Marc Jacobs smell like? This is a very modern feminine fragrance. I love it because it is brave enough to open with the essence of rhubarb.

 

After that, you find yourself wrapped up in daffodil before being transported on a cloud of almonds to land softly on cashmeran and cedarwood shavings.

 

It is a lovely smooth fragrance which flows very well. Perfect works as a daytime perfume but transitions well into the early evening.

 

It is airy and light while making a gentle statement. Instead of exploding on the scene, it arrives.

 

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Summer Vibes Pour Femme

 

This fragrance reminds me of freshly picked lemons. When lemons are first picked you get a fresh but slightly sweet smell.

 

Bergamot provides a backdrop and then you get sweet peaches. Cedarwood provides balance.

 

Light Blue reminds me of Italian hillsides packed with fruits and delicious flowering herbs.

 

Light Blue offers an airiness and breeziness which work well in summer. After a long hot day, you need something like that. It is a grounding fragrance which is liberating at the same time.

 

Flora Futura By Thierry Mugler

 

I am adding this fragrance to the list. For me, it represents warm Mediterranean summer nights.

 

In its heart, you find Cereus. What is Cereus I hear you ask?

 

Cereus is a night-blooming cacti. It has its origins in South America but spread to Europe. It is rumoured the Spanish Conquistadores introduced it to Spain.

 

As it is tolerant to fluctuating temperatures, it has taken hold in many Spanish territories. You find it growing on the mainland and on the Spanish islands.

 

It has a gorgeous bouquet and you can often find it growing wild. A lovely scent which reminds you of Mediterranean summer nights in Spain, the Canary Islands and the Balearics.

 

Other notes in this beautiful summer perfume include lemon, white amber and sandalwood. Buddha Wood has been added for extra smokiness.

 

It is a treat for the senses and has excellent endurance. I like this fragrance and would like more women to try it.

 

Flora Futura is a great fragrance choice for young and more mature ladies.

 

Aura is another great choice when it comes to summer perfumes from Mugler.

Summer is a great time of the year to be out and about. The risk is that your fragrance is lost in the crowd.

 

The women’s fragrances on this list are versatile. Many of them are transitional and work well during the night and day.
