Travelling with Perfume: Best 100ml Perfumes For
Travelling
Not
all UK airports have 3D scanners which allow you to pack all
of your favourite larger-size perfumes in your
hand luggage. Even if you are lucky enough to find an airport with the
appropriate scanner, it does not mean it is going to be working.
If
the scanner is out of action, it means that if you have packed a larger perfume
in your hand luggage, you will be forced to leave it behind.
It
seems unfair, but the rules are there to keep us all safe. It is better to work
with the rules. Also, having your favourite perfumes
taken away from you is costly.
Are
your perfumes returned to you when you come back through the same airport? The
answer to that is no. You have lost your favourite
perfumes.
Guidelines for Transit Passengers
Just
because you managed to get through one airport security check with your favourite bottle of Guerlain perfume, it does not mean
things are going to be that easy at the next airport.
If
you are a transit passenger, you are often asked to go through airport security
again. This is another reason to err on the side of caution and pack smaller
perfumes.
What About Other Products?
The
100ml clear liquid rule does not only apply to perfumes. It also applies to any
liquid in a container.
As a general rule, the container needs to be clear and
not over 100ml. This means you even risk having your Garnier MiCellar Water taken away from you.
Gels
and suntan lotion can also be taken into custody. The smart money is on packing
cosmetics and other essential skincare in the luggage that goes in the hold of
the aircraft.
However,
most of us are reluctant to pack our favourite
perfumes in our suitcases. Suitcases do get a rather rough ride by baggage
handlers - we know this.
So,
what is the answer to this dilemma? The best answer is to buy smaller size
perfume bottles.
Buying Perfume Abroad
I
guess the alternative is to buy perfume abroad. But,
buying perfume abroad is not always a good alternative. This year, leading
perfume stores in Spain were fined for selling dupes. In other words, selling
fake perfumes.
If
this goes on in a relatively well-established country such as Spain, it makes
you wonder what goes on in other countries.
In
my opinion, if you have a favourite perfume for the
beach or summer nights, it is best to buy perfume and cosmetics before you get
on the plane.
What Are The
Best Holiday Perfumes?
There
are perfumes that are great for wearing on the beach and others which are
better for wearing at night.
During
the day, go for citrus fresh perfumes. Most citrus-based perfumes work well
with body lotions. Spray the perfume on your hair and it should last. But, there is no reason why you should not take your favourite perfume to the beach.
In
the evening, it is best to go for a more scented perfume.
Best 100ml Perfumes For Women When Travelling By Plane
You
should always go for the perfume you like. But, as a frequent traveller, I know that you are far more likely to have an
issue if the perfume is not clear.
I
would recommend that you opt for clear perfumes if you can. If you have favourites that are darker in colour,
it is best to pack them in your hold luggage. Further down this page, I am
offering advice on how to pack perfume and skincare that you need to put in the
hold.
1 Dolce & Gabbana K
I
know that this is a men’s scent, but please hear me out.
Dolce
& Gabanna K is also a great scent for ladies. It
has a set of elements that you will appreciate on hot summer days on the beach
or around the swimming pool.
DG K
has rich citrus notes backed up by clary sage and juniper. Both elements
contribute to the longevity of the scent. Also, this Dolce and Gabanna box set comes with a deodorant making it
excellent value for money.
When
you are back home, the deodorant is great for wearing during your workout
sessions.
2 Jean Paul Gaultier Classique 100ml
This
scent is a personal favourite of mine. It is hard to
believe that it was released in 1993! Classique is a modern perfume which has
stood the test of time. In many ways, you can say that it is a cult classic.
The
addition of mandarin orange makes Jean Paul Classique the perfect choice for
the beach. Despite warm temperatures, this perfume keeps its vibrancy and
freshness.
This
Jean Paul gift box set also comes with a 20ml
travel-size perfume which is perfect for slipping into your beach bag.
3 Jimmy Choo Eau
de Toilette 100ml Spray
Jimmy
Choo makes some of the best perfumes in the world. I love this fragrance as it
offers citrus freshness with something extra.
That
little extra comes from Tiger Orchid. Although it is delicate, Tiger Orchid
adds exotic freshness to this scent. It is perfect for daytime wear on hot
summer days but also works well in the evening.
Jimmy Choo Eau is one of my top 10 summer perfume recommendations.
4 Clinique Happy Eau
de Parfum 100ml Spray
Clinique
Happy Eau de Parfum is not overwhelming as far as
citrus notes go. However, when you are looking for a perfume which offers
long-lasting freshness, it is not going to let you down.
It
is light and flowery but still has a depth to it that you can’t miss. Happy Eau de Parfum is a fantastic scent for the beach
or days out shopping.
5 Kenzo Flower 100ml
Kenzo
Flower bottle immediately makes you think of summer. It is one of my favourite perfume bottles. I always keep mine when the
perfume is gone.
Flower
is a real-pick-me-up scent. This is the perfect scent to spray on when you have
been out late enjoying one too many gin and tonics. It
lifts you up and makes you feel fresh in an instant.
A
great perfume to wear on the beach or just for general daytime wear. I think
that Kenzo Flower is a must-have in your
summer perfume collection.
6 DKNY Women Eau
de Parfum 100ml Spray
DKNY
Women is a very modern perfume. It bursts out of the bottle with rich mandarin
citrus notes and stays fresh during the day. Women perfume is probably one of
those scents that will become a bit of a cult classic.
Anyway,
DKNY Women gets my vote as far as summer perfumes go. It is long lasting and the touch of wild orchid makes it interesting.
Once
again, it is one of those fragrances that wears well when on holiday as it has
depth. Maybe not the best fragrance for going out in the evening, but it
certainly works during the daytime.
I
would say that DKNY Women has an attitude and a touch
of street cred. Sometimes you need that when you do battle for deck chairs by
the pool.
7 Dior Eau
Fraiche Eau de Toilette 100ml Spray
Fraiche
does exactly what it says on the box - it stays fresh for a long time. If you
have not bought a fragrance from the Dior range of fragrances for a long time,
I think Fraiche is a great option.
It
is super fresh and stays vibrant for a long time. Taking a Dior perfume on
holiday may seem slightly extravagant. But Dior Fraiche eau de toilette is such a great scent that works
well during the day and in the evening.
8 Jimmy Choo Flash Eau de Parfum 100ml Spray
It
is time to add a touch of spice to your travelling perfume collection with Jimmy Choo Flash.
When
you like to spice it up, Flash offers you the perfect opportunity to do so. The
addition of Pink Pepper is what makes this fragrance slightly daring.
Although
it is spice, it offers freshness at the same time.
9 Calvin Klein Euphoria Eau de Parfum 100ml Spray
What is going on holiday all about? Being free and liberated is an important
part of taking a break. In many ways, you can say that Euphoria perfectly
represents that holiday feeling.
Euphoria Eau de Parfum has a long-lasting scent that makes
you feel great about yourself. It is a celebration of all the good things in
life. Therefore it is one of the best perfumes for
wearing when you are on holiday.
10 Hugo Boss XX Woman Eau de Toilette 100ml Spray
Hugo
Boss Woman XX was added to the Boss range of perfume in 2007. If you are only
thinking about packing one perfume for your journey, this is an excellent
choice.
Although
it is fresh, it also offers a certain edginess. Mandarin orange gives the
fragrance a freshness that keeps on giving. The addition of sandalwood makes Hugo Boss XX a good perfume for evening
wear.
Looking After Your Perfume When
Travelling
Whether
you are spending your summer holiday on a cruise or staying in a luxury villa,
you should not leave your perfume in the sunshine.
Hot
sun and bright light quickly deteriorate the delicately blended compounds in
your perfume. One of the best ideas is to keep your perfumes in a toilet bag
for the duration of your holiday.
That
way, they are kept out of the sun and you don’t risk
leaving them behind when you go home.
The
same thing goes for other body care products including body lotions, gels and body oils. Make sure that you keep them out of the
sun and away from heat sources.
Buying A Matching Body Lotion
Should
you buy a matching body lotion? If you are only planning on wearing a
particular perfume during the daytime, you may not need to buy a body
lotion.
However,
if you are buying a special perfume for wearing during the evening, it is a
good idea to buy a body lotion. Applying a body lotion helps to make your
perfume last longer. Using a body lotion as well as a perfume also increases
the intensity of the fragrance.
Apply
the body lotion on dry skin but quite quickly after you have showered. There is
a good reason for doing so.
Just
after your shower, your pores are open and your skin
absorbs more of the lotion. You get more benefits and
the fragrance lingers for longer.
Should
buy a matching deodorant? If you can get a deodorant to match your perfume,
this is a great idea. Yes, it is an added expense, but once again, you
intensify the fragrance experience.
How to Pack Your Perfumes and
Cosmetics When Travelling
We
often forget to invest in good quality toiletry bags. Most of us just pop into
Boots or Superdrug and pick up the cheapest toiletry bag available.
I
used to do the same thing until one of my favourite
Guerlain perfumes broke when I was travelling with my husband. Quickly I realised that my toiletry bag left a lot to be desired.
Yes,
it is important to pack light, but at the same time, you need to look after
your personal items. One of the first things I did when I returned home was to
invest in a nice toiletry bag with sections. I would recommend all travellers to do the same.
Final Thoughts
There
is nothing like taking a break or going holiday. Having a plan and packing your
bag right means you can take your favourite perfumes
and cosmetics with you without having to worry about them.
And
no matter what other people say, I am still an advocate for buying your
perfumes and cosmetics before you go on holiday. Doing so means you get genuine
designer fragrances and skincare.
