It may surprise you that unlike many other Holiday or Special Day celebrations, Father’s Day was not created by Hallmark to sell more cards.

 

Father’s Day was first celebrated in the United States in 1910. The source of inspiration behind Father’s Day was an American lady called Sonora Dodd. She thought it was unfair that women seemed to have a special day but men missed out. Consequently, she decided to create Father’s Day.

 

The first Father’s Day celebration took place in a YMCA hostel in a place called Spokane in the US State of Washington.

This is the conundrum faced by many women and partners. When I worked on perfume cosmetics counters, a few days before Father’s Day, I was often asked by ladies what to buy their men on Father’s Day.
